Description
The Freedom Swim is considered to be the “Everest of every open water swimmer in South Africa.” We are so excited to do this swim together across the 7km expanse of cold water between Robben Island and Big Bay mainland. This is a bucket list experience for us both and we would love you to support us with donations to this cause that is so close to both our hearts!
We have been swimmers from a young age, both of us representing our provinces in our school days. We both have a passion for the ocean and have scuba dived all over the world together. Being in and under water is amazingly regulating and healing for both of us. At the age of 40 we put our goggles on again and rekindled our love for swimming. We swim with a fantastic group of open water swimmers in the Knysna lagoon, the Knysna Seahorses, and train with the Knysna Dragons Swimming Club.
In preparation for and in the buildup to the Freedom Swim on the April 8th, we are swimming the Shipwreck 5km swim in Cape Town on the 5th March, the Bellbouy 5km swim in Port Elizabeth on the 21st of March as well has stepping up our early morning pool training sessions.
Janet has been working at Die Sterreweg Special Needs Centre for almost 10 years so Sabrina Love is very close to our hearts. We can think of nothing more special than swimming for this worthy cause that looks after these special kids.
