Our early intervention clinic aims to identify children under the age of 3 years who are at risk of any kind of developmental delay. This is an outpatient service where the children receive OT or physio services as needed.
Early intervention is really important for promoting long term motor, cognitive and communication outcomes, prevention of secondary impairments and for promotion of caregiver coping and mental health

During early intervention we focus on parent empowerment, and education and training, giving home programs and developing skills. We work closely with the department of health team and ensure that the child is accessing all necessary services. Furthermore we assist with facilitating the process for care dependency grant application, referring to social services where needed. We also assess the childβs need for specialized equipment like standing frames or wheelchairs. Where the department of health is unable to provide, we try to fundraise to ensure each child gets what they need.
Our early intervention platform allows us to identify at risk children early and place them on our waiting list at Die Sterreweg, so that they can enter the daycare when they are old enough.

At the moment we are launching our exciting new communication box project. Our therapists have put together special boxes filled with toys and resources to help our special early intervention children learn to express themselves through play. These boxes will be sent home and parents will be taught how to use each item.
