For the past two years our Sterreweg and Sabrina children have been going up to Tanushka Stables, owned and run by Kathy Epstein, who initiated and lovingly took our children for weekly riding sessions on her two beautiful big horses. Sinthu is a wonderful horseman and has been actively helping on the sessions with our children, riding himself and along with volunteers like Matthew Grobellar they have given our children the opportunity to receive this hugely beneficial therapy.
Kathy is relocating to Cape Town and arranged with Sue Carlston from Piesang Valley Stables to take over the Riding for our children. We have been riding there for a month now and with the proximity being closer, she has managed to schedule for our children to ride with her twice a week. The children absolutely adore their time with the horses and to hear them laugh and sing with joy as their turn comes up is food for the soul. Many a tear is shed when the session is over which is a sure sign of how they love the ponies and the experience of the freedom of movement and closeness to these wonderful animal. It has become one of the highlights of the weekly program and the interaction between the kids and the horses is so beneficial for our special needs children.
What makes it even more special for Suzy is the fact that this is the very land that she used to ride on with Sabrina and is now where the children are having their Horse Riding Therapy. We are so grateful to Kathy for initiating this program and now to Sue and all her volunteers for continuing this valuable treatment for us. We are there every Wednesday and Thursday. Any volunteers may contact Sue if they would like to be included in the roster to help. This includes leading and even riding with the children if you are a capable rider.
