Most of the Garden Route was thrown into a state of disarray when the area was struck by an incredible rain storm on Wednesday, 5 May 2021. Sadly, our daycare centre, Die Sterreweg, was not spared.
An incredible downpour that measured around 80mm was received over a very brief 30 minute period and followed by intermittent showers through the night. Our staff were overwhelmed this morning when arriving at work. Large, muddy pools greeted our Centre Manager, Tamarin Windvogel, when she arrived to open.
Sadly, not one classroom was spared. The large mass of water chose the quickest and easiest path – downhill and through our precious school.
Unfortunately our centre had to be closed for the day while the damage was assessed and cleaning operations were put into place.
Our amazing team at Die Sterreweg sprung into action. Along with the help of the always willing Alison Bryant and her team from Plett Carpet Cleaners, water was pumped out and the massive task to clean up and dry out was put underway.
We have huge gratitude to everyone that jumped in today to clean and get Die Sterreweg operational again.
