Juhaile‘ story started a few weeks ago when this 7 year old little boy from The Crags in Plettenberg Bay, who was diagnosed with a tumour on his brainstem was told that there was nothing more that could be done to help him and that the tumour had grown too large.
We are currently working on the Love-a-Bedroom project which together with the Eccentrics team decorates children’s bedrooms and provides the children with special needs with some basic furniture – some children have never had a bed before!
During tour visit to Juhaile’s home, the team realized how quickly he had deteriorated and decided that the support they were getting needed to be increased.
A local Plett man, Cornel Delport, who started his own NGO – Ninaluca – decided that he wanted Juhaile to enjoy whatever time he had left and spoil him with an experience of a lifetime. Once the ball started rolling, it took 2 days to organise a very special trip for Juhaile and his mother. Cornel contacted Comair who sponsored return flights for Juhaile and his mom from George to Joburg. They also allowed him to experience the 737 flight simulator. He got to wear a pilot outfit and ‘fly the plane’ with Estie, Cornels wife.
Lindsay Ralphs from Bidvest was approached for assistance and he made sure that anyone who could help was called upon. Ann Neilson helped coordinate between Cornel and Bidair to make sure that Juhaile and his mom were looked after before, after and during the flight. Ashraf from Bidair did everything he could to give them the VIP treatment from the moment they landed. They made sure that every minute was an experience and that they knew they were in good hands. Neil Fraser from Tsogo Sun sponsored a night at the Palazzo Hotel and Simone made sure that Juhaile was spoilt with all things kids love!
Cornel and Estie’s friends, as well as Ninaluca generously gave money towards a shop at Toys ‘R Us – where Juhaile could buy whatever he wanted, Juhaile flew back to Plett on Tuesday and sadly passed away on Thursday morning. Our hearts are broken yet at the same time warmed by the amazing generosity of so many extremely kind people, thank you so much to everyone involved! Your generosity and energy gave this family a gift that will never ever be forgotten!
