Morne Mintoor was born with Craniosyntosis, a congenital condition characterised by abnormal fusing of the bones of the skull which can impact normal brain development.
Morne started at Die Sterreweg when he was 3 years old. At the end of 2019 we decided to give Morne a trial in a mainstream classroom with a Sabrina Love Foundation classroom facilitator, to see whether he would cope. He entered Formosa Primary Grade R at the start of 2020. He was so excited to be going to his big brother’s school!
We quickly realized that this determined little boy was there to stay. Despite the challenges of learning during the Covid pandemic Morne adapted well to mainstream.
He is now in grade 1 in Mrs Trollip’s class. He is a fully included and extremely happy little boy.
We are so grateful for the team at Formosa Primary and especially his teacher Mrs Trollip for making his inclusion and success possible. Mrs Trollip regards and treats Morne as any other child in her class, nurturing and coaching him. He also has a wonderful Sabrina Love facilitator, Denolene, in class with him to provide extra support.
His facilitators at Die Sterreweg cannot believe how well he is doing and he regularly wows us with his reading when he visits us for homework sessions.
