As our children prepare for the start of the new school term, it’s always good to reflect and look ahead. Our philosophy is to incorporate our special needs children in to mainstream schools at the earliest possible stage. So as not to place additional demands on school teachers, we employ special needs assistants who accompany the child to school and work side by side with existing teachers and to provide care and support. They help the children to improve their independent living skills, support them in social activities and attend to the children’s physical needs. This daily intervention has assisted in improvement of their gross motor milestones, concentration, social interaction and completion of tasks.
Mvuyo is one such child. He has made such significant progress at Footsteps Preschool, that he has now been accepted to attend Plett Primary. So, it is with great excitement that we wish Mvuyo and his assistant, Phasiwe, well as he begins his new chapter on Monday!
