Mischa Andrews is a 13 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy that has been part of the Sabrina Love Foundation family since she was a little girl. Mischa has right hemiplegia. Hemiplegia or hemiparesis is a condition that affects either side of the body causing partial or complete paralasis. This is caused by injury to a specific side of the brain that controls the limbs.
Mischa has always required an orthotic to enable her to walk comfortably. Initially government was approached to supply an orthotic, however, due the high volume of patients that they have to attend to, the backlog was quite significant. A brace was manufactured and supplied, but unfortunately by the time it was delivered, it no longer fitted.
After recently breaking her foot, the position of her foot worsened increasing the poor walking pattern that Mischa had developed. Nicole McDonald, our awesome Occupational Therapist and Tarryn Saunders, our super physiotherapist brain stormed and decided that due the urgency of Mischa’s situation we would need to approach a private orthoptist – enter the wonderful George based Franette Botha. After assessing and measuring Mischa, the brand new brace was delivered and fitted within 2 weeks. Just look at that wonderfully happy smile! Thank you so much to our incredible team – you are our superstars!
