Sabrina’s story

It all started with Sabrina.

Sabrina Lubner was born in 1996 with a rare bone condition that meant she could never walk or sit on her own. She still lived a full life. She drove her own electric wheelchair, rode ponies, sang and painted with her mouth. She passed away in 2003, just before her seventh birthday.

Her parents, Tony and Suzy Lubner, started the Sabrina Love Foundation in 2004 to care for disabled children and their families in Plettenberg Bay and the Bitou region. Over the years they have built the Summer Challenge into one of the biggest events in Plett each December, and the whole town wears pink for it.

“We decided to create her Sabrina Love Foundation, a Foundation to take care of all the disabled children and their families in our Plettenberg Bay and Bitou region.”
Suzy Lubner

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What do I get with my entry?

Every entry includes a finisher medal and a 2026 Year of Joy event T-shirt, plus professional timing and water points on the run, MTB and trail routes. Most importantly, your entry fee goes to the Sabrina Love Foundation.

How do I enter?

Each day has its own entry page on Entry Ninja. Click the “Enter” button for the day you want. If you are doing more than one day, enter each one separately.

Can I do more than one event?

Yes, lots of people do all four days. Paddle or walk on the 27th, run on the 28th, ride on the 29th and trail-run on the 30th.

I’m not very fit. Is this for me?

Yes. There are no cut-off times, support vehicles are on every route, and the 4km Beach Walk, 5km run, 6km trail and 10km MTB are perfect for beginners and families.

Who can do Kids of Steel?

Kids of Steel is a run/swim/run for young athletes on Wednesday 30 December at 09h30, Kurland Estate. Ages 8 to 10 do one lap (about 1.5km: 600m run, 100m swim, 800m run) and ages 11 to 14 do two laps (about 3km). Entry is R250.

How does the Surf Ski Double work?

Each paddler pays R300, so a double boat costs R600 in total. You will be asked for your partner’s details on Entry Ninja.

Where does my entry fee go?

All proceeds support children with disabilities through the Sabrina Love Foundation. The money pays for therapy, daycare, transport, meals and inclusive education in Plettenberg Bay and the Bitou region.

Who do I contact with questions?

Call or WhatsApp the Sabrina Love Foundation on +27 78 803 8978, or email [email protected].
